Grinding teeth - what is the best solution?

My dentist has recently filled in the craters in two opposite molars that i have created by grinding my teeth. the only problem is - i do not know if i really grind my teeth. how would i know if i was doing it? my boyfriend says that he has never noticed it at night, but i am still not convinced.

second, my dentist said that if i continue to grind (w/o a bite guard at night) i will have to get my teeth capped (?). is my only solution a bite guard - b/c this sounds really terrible to me? thanks for any info. . .

Grinding teeth - what is the best solution?
Tenty per cent of Americans suffer from bruxism which is grinding and clenching your teeth at night. It normally happens at night. People who do this may also chew their fingernails or pencils during the day.

Symptoms of teeth grinding include:

* Jaw or facial pain first thing in the morning that gradually goes away during the day;

* Headaches or eachaches first thing in the morning that gradually go away;

* Teeth become sensitive to cold, pressure or other stimuli;

* Complaints from your partner - not applicable in this case;

* Indentations on tongue;

* Tips of teeth appear flattened.

e-How lists several solutions. The first is seeing a dentist and getting a bite guard or getting your teeth capped. The others involve reducing your level of stress by:

* Holding a warm damp cloth against your face for ten minutes before you go to bed to reduce tension;

* Relax before bed by meditating, taking a hot bath or stretching;

* Reduce alcohol and caffeine consumption; and

* Learn to reduce stress through stress management courses and learning relaxation techniques.
Reply:go to a sports store and get a mouthpiece you know like for football players and wear it at night. you dont really have to go to a dentist and get something fancy even though thats what they want you 2 think. and you can get a small one thats not as bad. its better than getting your teeth capped
Reply:drs night gaurd. it isn%26#039;t that bad once you get used to it
Reply:mouth guards arent really that bad to wear.. the only thing that is bad is when they put the stuff in your mouth to get a mold of your teeth... but that only lasts for like 60 seconds. You will get used to wearing it after a few days, nd yes im sure that is your only options
Reply:Yes the nightguard is pretty much all youre stuck with, you can try hypnosis, or self hypnosis
