Infant grinding teeth?

My son is 10 months old and has 4 top and 4 bottom teeth. He has gotten into the habit of grinding his teeth. I can not stand the sound. It makes me nauseous just listening to it. I have tried telling him no and that makes him laugh and do it more. I have given him cold teethers, finger foods, and tylenol and that doesn%26#039;t help. I have started putting him in his crib every time he does it and leaving him in there for a few minutes but he thinks that is a game too. I know it should not hurt his teeth but he does this all day long and I feel like I am going to pull all my hair out if he doesn%26#039;t stop. Is there anything that anyone has tried that really works or am I just going to have to invest in some earplugs until he outgrows it?

Infant grinding teeth?
My daughter used to do that when she had just 4 teeth, too. She would put her bottoms infront of her tops and just push/pull until the teeth would just %26quot;pop%26quot; back. It was the worst noise ever!!!!! I would cringe at the sound. I just knew she was going to break her teeth!!! I talked to my mother in law and she said my husband did the same thing. My pediatrition said that it won%26#039;t hurt her or her teeth but when she does it just tap my finger on her mouth and firmly say no. Not yell at her and say it mean but say no. And by tapping your finger on her mouth (lightly!) you%26#039;re directly identifying what you want her to stop. Of course if he just takes it as a game you may just have to deal with it. he%26#039;ll out grow it hopefully when he gets more teeth.
Reply:ask the dentist.
Reply:My nephew did that very often too. He is 13 months old. He didn%26#039;t do it when he was 10 months I don%26#039;t think, I think it was more of when he was getting his teeth, that was between 6-9 months. Putting him in his crib isn%26#039;t really doing anything, he%26#039;s not too sure why he%26#039;s there. It may just be a phase, because my nephew doesn%26#039;t do it anymore, or it could be teething as well. If you are really concerned, however, you could talk to his doctor.

Good luck.
Reply:WHAT THE HELL?????????????You gave your baby tylenol for grinding his teeth. ARE YOU CRAZY???????????/
Reply:My dd did this too, when she first started getting her teeth in. It%26#039;s called %26quot;cutting teeth%26quot; and it%26#039;s completely normal. He%26#039;ll probably have one or 2 new teeth in the next few weeks.

Don%26#039;t punish him for it (putting him in the crib...he%26#039;s too young for time out)...every baby does it, it%26#039;s a part of the teething process.

Instead of Tylenol, try Hyland%26#039;s Teething Tablets http://hylands.com/products/teething.php or Hyland%26#039;s Teething Gel http://hylands.com/products/teethinggel.... tablets melt in the mouth and I found they work sooooo much better than the Orajel/ Anbesol.

Also, I would freeze carrots, broccoli, celery, waffles, and washcloths and use those as %26quot;teething toys%26quot; for DD. She got the coldness, and also got used to the taste of the veggies. Now she LOVES veggies, especially broccoli.
Reply:My daughter is 11 months old and is also doing this. She%26#039;s just exploring her new teeth. By making a big deal about it, you may actually be making it worse (at this age they just love getting a reaction out of us.) Give him something to chew on to explore with his teeth (a teether, we have a fun corn cob that vibrates on her teeth.) When I give her the corn teether she stops grinding her teeth because it gives her something new to explore with her teeth. Hope that helps :)
Reply:My son is 11 months and does the same thing. It seems pretty natural. I stick my finger in his mouth and he stops, but then starts up again. He thinks it%26#039;s hilarius when I tell him to stop. I know the sound is awful. My husband really hates it. Stick a cheerio in his mouth, or something to distract him from doing it.
